Live from Dell's Adamo press event!

We're live from Dell's early-morning Adamo press event at the Palms -- we're pretty much expecting them to reveal a slick 13-inch ultraportable, but we'll see what other surprises are in store. We're currently confined to suite across the hall where Dell's plying the media with free omelettes, but we snuck into the event room for the shot above and saw what looked to be the XPS Studio 1340 and 1640 set up. We'll be starting for real in just a few, keep it locked!Permalink | Email this | Comments

To make a long story short, the beta will be available only today, Windows 7 upgrades will only work with Vista SP1, and you’ll need to register to get a product key. The ISO is estimated to be 2.5 to 3.5GB in size.

But good luck. I’ve tried visiting Wired’s source, a post on the Official Windows Blog, and I’ve also tried visiting the Windows 7 page to get the download link. Wired warned that “demand will be huge.” Seems like that’s true, or Microsoft has dropped the ball on this one.

Fridge Curtain To Save Electricity, Or Just Unplug It?

(Photo credit: me)This is a simple, clever idea that you can try for your refrigerator. Hang a piece of clear plastic on each shelf, to avoid cold air escaping when you open the fridge door. You could use a shower curtain cut to the right size. If getting rid of the fridge is a bit too much of a leap, at least this will save electricity. Make my day, do the math, how much would this save? Then I thought: ...

Build Your Own Crystal Furniture

When I was a kid I was given a copy of Crystals and Crystal Growing and spent weeks cooking sugar and salt and everything I could find in my chemistry set to make lovely crystals. When my son was of an impressionable age I bought an updated copy of the book and almost killed us all trying to grow beautiful purple cyanide crystals. Japanese industrial designer Tokujin Yoshioka takes my feeble hobby one step further and grows useful furniture out of crystals carefully grown ...
